Magnetic drill presses, annular cutter setups, compact portable guides, and micro/mini precision drills.
People walk into Harbor Freight looking for a magnetic drill press because they have seen one on a job site or watched a fabrication video online. They want the portability, the power, and the ability to drill straight holes in vertical steel with...
A magnetic drill press is not a tool you buy on impulse. It is a specialized machine for drilling accurate holes in steel, and it sits in a different category from the benchtop or floor presses that most home shops own. It clamps to the workpiece ...
I still remember the first time I watched a mag drill grab a steel beam like a limpet and core a clean hole in seconds. No clamping, no bolting to a table — just magnetic force doing work that a benchtop drill press could never touch. If you've go...
Search for a magnetic drill press vise and you get a confusing pile of results: portable steel-drilling machines that weigh forty pounds, magnetic mounts the size of a hockey puck, and plain cast iron vises with no magnet anywhere on them. That is...
A drill press assumes you can bring the work to the machine. But a great deal of drilling happens on things that cannot be moved: a steel beam already erected, a ship's hull, a bridge, a large weldment bolted in place. For that world there is the ...
The drill press guard is the accessory nobody wants until the day a chip flicks up at eye level or a sleeve catches near a spinning chuck. Then it becomes the most important thing on the machine. A magnetic-mount guard is the version that makes pr...
The Milwaukee 4203 is one of the most recognizable names in magnetic drilling. It is the adjustable-position electromagnetic base that a Milwaukee motor unit mounts to, and generations of steel fabricators, ironworkers, and maintenance crews have ...
The DeWalt DWE1622K is a magnetic drill press, not a conventional column press, and that distinction is the whole ballgame. If you drill holes in structural steel, beams, plates, and fabricated assemblies, this is a serious tool built for the job....
When a steel fabricator says "drill press" and means something they can carry up a ladder, they are usually talking about a Milwaukee electromagnetic drill. These are not the belt-and-column machines of a woodshop; they are portable mag drills tha...
A cordless magnetic drill press is a relatively new category that combines the portability of a mag drill with the convenience of battery power. It is designed for steelworkers, fabricators, and maintenance mechanics who need to drill holes in rem...
Picture a steel beam clamped waist-high, twelve bolt holes to cut, and a hand drill that keeps wandering off your center punch. Now picture a heavy little machine that clamps itself to the steel with a magnet, sinks a clean 1-inch hole in under a ...
When a job means drilling clean holes in structural steel out in the field, a magnetic drill is the tool that goes to the work instead of the other way around. DeWalt is a name most tradespeople already trust for cordless and corded tools, and its...
The phrase "magnetic base drill press vise" points at one of the most genuinely useful tools in metalwork, and also at a common mix-up worth clearing first. What most people mean, and what earns its keep, is a magnetic drill: a portable machine wh...
You line up a hole, lower the bit, and your own hand throws a shadow right across the mark. Every drill press owner has fought this, squinting past the chuck at a layout line that disappears the moment the quill comes down. A magnetic work light f...
The idea sounds almost too good: flip a lever and a magnet locks your vise to a steel table with hundreds of pounds of grip, no bolts, no drilling the table, no fumbling with T-nuts. A Magswitch-style drill press vise mount promises exactly that, ...
Search "DeWalt drill press" and the results can confuse you, because they mix two very different ideas. DeWalt does not make a traditional benchtop or floor woodworking drill press; what DeWalt builds is the mag drill, a portable magnetic drill th...
Picture a steel beam thirty feet in the air and a hole that has to go through it dead straight. You cannot bring the beam to a drill press, so you bring the drill press to the beam. That is the whole idea behind a magnetic drill press, and once yo...
You are twenty feet up on a steel beam, or leaning over a fabricated frame that will never fit under a bench press, and you need a clean two-inch hole through structural steel. A benchtop drill press cannot help you here. This is where a magnetic ...
Somewhere in a lot of old toolboxes and estate sales sits a heavy metal case with a Black and Decker magnetic drill inside, models with numbers like 1550, 1551, and 1554 that ironworkers carried for years. That history is exactly why people search...
A magnetic drill press is a different animal from the machine bolted to your bench. Instead of bringing the work to the tool, you bring the tool to the work: the whole drill clamps itself to a steel beam or plate with a powerful magnet and cuts a ...
A regular drill press assumes the work comes to the machine. But a lot of drilling happens where the machine cannot go: a steel beam overhead, a bridge girder, a ship's hull, a machine frame bolted to the floor. That is the exact problem a magneti...
Harbor Freight is where a lot of shop tools start their life, so it is natural to walk in expecting to find a magnetic base drill press on the shelf next to the bench grinders and the drill presses. The reality is a little more specific than that,...
A magnetic base drill press does not sit on a bench. It clings to steel like a magnet to a refrigerator, except the magnet is strong enough to hold a drilling motor steady while it bores a 2-inch hole through I-beam. If you have ever tried to dril...
The DeWalt DWE1622K is a 2-inch, 2-speed magnetic drill press built for drilling into steel beams, plates, and structural members where a conventional floor or benchtop press cannot reach the work. Where a conventional press brings the workpiece t...
There is a moment on any steel job when the work simply will not come to you. The beam is welded in place, the plate is bolted to a frame, the column is standing where it will stand forever. A benchtop drill press is useless here. What you need is...
The Milwaukee 4203 adjustable position electromagnetic drill press base is a specialized tool that has almost nothing in common with a benchtop or floor drill press. If you have been searching for it expecting a freestanding press, you have the wr...
When a job calls for drilling steel that will not come to a bench, a beam in place, a bolted plate, a standing column, the tool you need is a magnetic drill, and a big-box store like Home Depot is a common first place to look. You can see the mach...
You are standing in front of a steel beam that needs a hole. The beam is too big for a benchtop drill press, too heavy to move to a shop, and too awkward to clamp to a table. A hand drill will wander, chew up the bit, and leave you with an oval ho...
