  3. Place padding: A folded rag or scrap wood block on the table below the chuck. The chuck drops when the taper releases.

  4. Power off, switch locked, unplugged. Required.

Insert the drift key into the slot with the tapered face oriented to bear axially against the flat tang of the arbor. This orientation is critical: the taper on the drift key should wedge between the arbor tang and the opposing face of the slot, pushing the arbor straight downward out of the spindle bore.
