Using a Drill Press as a Metal Lathe: Speed, Tooling, and Workholding Choices
The idea is tempting. A drill press already spins a chuck, so why not chuck a metal rod, bring a tool to the side, and turn it down like a lathe? The honest answer up front: a drill press is built to push straight down, not to take side loads.
